London Drugs Shopping Trip

Can you guess how much I spent on everything in the picture below?

Including tax everything came to $13.07, in fact $9.11 of the cost was tax. Here's how I did it: Real Canadian Super Store has tubs of Pampers (and Huggies) wipes on sale for $2.99, while Shoppers Drug Mart has Pampers Easy Ups on sale for $15.99, I took both of these store's flyers over to London Drugs and went to the customer service desk and asked for a price match. After that I used various coupons adding up to $71.96 in savings and voila there you have it.

Dole Squish'ems Coupon Change

First it was the Old El Paso Dinner Kits now it's the Dole Squish'ems. Save.ca has gone ahead and changed the coupon value from $1.50 off to $1.00 off Dole Squish'ems fruit snacks. Well at least the good news is, the coupon is available to re order anytime, you no longer have to wait the usual 45 days since your last order. Also for anyone out on the west coast Real Canadian Superstore has this product on sale for $2.22, it's an unadvertised sale so hopefully the shelves won't already be emptied.

What You Can Stack Coupons in Canada?!?!

Yes you heard right! London Drugs is the only store in Canada that allows you to use multiple coupons on each purchase. One example is if you are buying a pack of pampers diapers that costs $18 and you have 4 x $2 off pampers diapers coupons you may use all 4 of those coupons for that one package of diapers purchase. However there are some exceptions that I will go through.
This is a summary of an email I received when I emailed customer service asking what their coupon policy was:
LD's coupon policy is:
1- To accept manufacturer's standard coupons
2- Accept manufacturer's coupons exclusive to LD
3- Accept London Drugs issued coupons

Number of Coupons Accepted:
-More than one coupon may be accepted for a product, if each coupon comes from a different media source (basically they need to have different bar codes). the different media sources include coupons from a newspaper, magazine, internet (they are no not allowing printable coupons valued over $2), bottle caps or in store manufacturer's exclusive coupons.
-Upon redemption of the coupons PST and/or GST (HST soon booooo!) applies to the full selling price of the item (so basically you are paying tax on the $18 pack of diapers, NOT the price after coupons).

Coupon Acceptance, the Following Requirements Have to be Met:
-Expiry date has not been exceeded
-Must be redeemable in Canada
-The product named on the coupon has been purchased
-The size and/or flavour of the item, as stated on the coupon has been purchased
-The required number of items has been purchased

Price Matching
London Drugs will also match a competitors FLYER price, again there are exceptions, but all you need to do is bring in the competitors current flyer take it to the customer service desk and let them know you'd like to price match the item. Yes you can stack coupons and price match.

Exceptions for Price Matching
London Drugs will not price match Costco or any other store where they require you to pay to be a member. They will also NOT price match some of Walmart's flyer items, sometimes Walmart marks down things so low that it's below cost.
The amount of items you are allowed to price match varies with each store, for example at my London Drugs they allow you to price match as many products as you want, however they only allow 4 of each price matched item. Other stores may only allow only one item to be price matched, it's really up to the store manager.

Some Advice
-Stack coupons at the Customer Service desk. At a regular till, you will need to wait for a manager to come do an override if there is an abundance of coupons, plus you are more likely to hold up the line at a regular till. There is also a computer screen that shows your purchase and coupons taken off that makes it easy to watch for mistakes.
-Make sure your coupons are all organized before you go pay for your items. The London Drugs website is great for checking up on prices as they have all their inventory and prices listed.
-Most cashiers/CS reps like it if you hand them each stack for each item as they ring it in, as it is easier for them to keep track of the prices and to make sure your coupons don't go over the product price (I keep mine in paper clipped bundles with notes saying the value of each coupon value).
-**most importantly of all, stacking at London Drugs is fairly new, please please do not argue with a staff member if they refuse a coupon or are a bit slow etc, also don't clear the shelves, no one really needs 20 bags of pampers at once (unless you are planning a big donation, in that case call the store manager ahead of time and work something out one on one). Stacking is a privilege that no one wants to lose!

Welcome to My Blog!!

This blog's main focus is on how Canadians can save money, of course everyone is welcome to read, learn and share some tips of their own.
I love saving money, but like any red blooded Canadian female, I love shopping too. I like to get the most bang for my buck, so to speak. I started using coupons 18 months ago, but really got into it with full force more recently. Using coupons and combining them with sales has allowed my family the occasional splurge and indulgence. Although, we are a single income family of 4, so we still have to watch our spending to a certain degree. My aim for this blog is to help people out by providing tips and tricks to maximize your savings. This blog will focus on deals, where to find them and how to get them, annual sales, youtube shoppers, and of course coupons! Speaking of coupons there is a great list of coupon sites on the right hand side that will mail coupons to your door for free :) >>>>
Check it out and let me know what you think
